Comments about USF Game
1. This team has got to figure out how to get the ball to Yoeli inside (not on the perimeter) frequently. Yoeli is pretty much unstoppable there as long as he takes his time. But he's also got to be committed to passing back out if he's doubled or nothing is there. When Yoeli plays outside BYU is not nearly as good offensively as when he plays inside. I know Yoeli likes to shoot the 3, but those shots should be rare. His only points in the first half came on 3s. That should never be the case with him.

2. For the life of me I can't figure out why Worthington is starting and why he gets as many minutes as he does. It seems that a large percentage of the time when he gets the ball inside it ends up in either a turnover or a missed shot, even if it's a point blank attempt. And he consistently picks up a lot of fouls. I'd much rather have Baxter in there. It would accelerate his learning process, and even this season, as he gets more minutes BYU would be a better team than they are now.

3. I was excited when I heard Emery was coming back. I was confident his return would make BYU a better team. I've been patient as he's tried to find his role and work himself into game shape. But tonight he was terrible. Even on defense he was bad. He was very active and worked hard, but Ferrari continually drove right by him. Sadly, I'm wondering if Emery will ever come close regaining his ability from 2 years ago.

4. I do believe that Rose has some deficiencies as a coach, but I really feel like the biggest problem this team has is that they don't have enough good players. In previous years I could complain about Rose playing only 7 or 8 players in conference games. Not now. But it doesn't seem to matter who is in the game. If both Childs and Haws aren't having good games, BYU is in trouble. I still find Rose's substitution patterns bewildering at times. At times they seem completely random, and at the very least they are very inconsistent. That's got to make it really tough on the players when many of them have no idea how much they're likely to play in a particular game. By the way, where was Nixon tonight? Did he even get into the game in the 1st half? I remember seeing him in the last minute or so of the game, but that was it.

5. From what I've seen so far in conference play, BYU is the 4th best team in the conference, at best. Gonzaga is way ahead of everyone else. SMC and USF will likely battle it out for 2nd and 3rd place in the conference. Hopefully, BYU has enough to beat back other challengers and end up in 4th place. It's true that both of their conference losses were on the road, but both were lopsided affairs, so I don't have much confidence that BYU will beat either the Gaels or San Francisco in the Marriott Center.

6. I guess what I'd like to see as the starting lineup from here on out is Childs, Haws, Baxter, Harding, and probably Cannon, with Seljaas the first one off the bench. PT for Cannon or Seljaas should be determined by who is hitting shots. Next off the bench would probably be Bergersen. After that, I'd feel more comfortable with Nixon in the game than Worthington.

7. If Yoeli sticks around another year (but I really don't see why he would), BYU could have a decent team next season. What recruits or RMs does BYU add to the roster for next year? Anyone that is expected to make a contribution? How much potential does Lee have? Frankly, I think I'd like to see him playing more than Worthington.

8. Finally, it's sad that this men's basketball team still gets decent attendance at its home games while the women's team has only a few hundred fans in the stands at the Marriott Center.
