Okay I'll take a stab at this.
First of all the reason for someone becoming the fan of a team is completely irrelevant. The fact that they've decided to throw their hat in with said team is enough. They don't need to motivate their reasons. If they like the team then they like the team. The amount of energy people waste getting upset about bandwagonners is rather silly. If you think about it there really is no such thing as a bona fides fan versus a fake fan. When all that's required to become a fan is to like and cheer for a specific team.

Secondly, it's really strange that many people seem to get so hot and bothered over the fact that a new fans behavior on social media 'sucks' and that it drives him to frustration anger and sometimes even rage. Again is it really important for fans to have been the first or the original?

It's the same reaction that teenagers have when they discover a band or a musical artist they enjoy and want to be the cool kid amongst their peers for having been the first one at the high School to have discovered this amazing group. And once they've introduced this magical artist to their group of friends, anyone showing up a month later talking about how awesome band XYZ is treated with scoffs, indignance and generalize all future expressions of fandom of their discovered artist is the unacceptable work of posers.

You will have to ask yourself why does it matter? Why do you care? In a world where we have the opportunity to make the choice of whether or not 2 watch professional sports and to cheer for teams for whatever reason we want, it is strange that there are those who would mandate some sort of fan cred in order to sort out the poser bandwagon types in order to keep the pure true fans protected from such riffraff

Can you see how silly that might be? By the way I'm a pats fan. I think the Brady Belichick chemistry is amazing. I love the fact that a BYU alum is playing for them and playing well. No I haven't always been a pats fan however I've gone from picking the teams I like based upon how cool their logo is when I was in 3rd grade 2 focusing on teams that Draft BYU players and if they play an interesting or entertaining form of the game. If that makes me a poser I gladly accept the title for stigma.
