No. The game was tied, no team is going to give up an easy TD so they can get
the ball back and need a TD to tie.
As posted below, Peyton said he was going to kneel on it to run out the clock and then kick the game winning FG. The penalty would have stopped the clock, and the Rams would have called their final timeout after 1st down, bringing the clock down to ~1:42. Kneeling on 2nd and 3rd down would have brought the clock to around 20 seconds, plus another 4 or 5 for the FG play. The kick off would have been with 15 seconds left with the Rams down by 3. It's almost motor city magic time then.

Nope. Peyton said he was going to take knees to run out clock so that last play would be winning field goal.
