officially calling it that. The live view of the play is rarely the one that shows what happened.
As soon as the ball is dead, there's a ton of crap in motion. Down markers are getting reset, play calls for both offense and defense are being made, subs are coming in and out, and all while the play clock is running.
You're asking for the head ref to say, "Wait for it, wait for it, uh huh, uh huh, OK, got it. Play stands as called, let's move along people." And you're asking for that on every play. That's not practical.
Instead, the NFL needs to determine how and why officiating quality has gone down, and what they can do to fix it. Perhaps start by making it a full blown career.
