3.9 weighted or unweighted GPA?
3.9 unweighted is good; but 3.9 weighted not so much.
For reference, weighting raises my kid's weighted GPA to 4.7 from 4.0 unweighted. I realize not all schools weight GPAs, but if your son's school does it could explain it as BYU evaluates unweighted GPA IIRC.
