It wasn’t a hard choice for him, Hawaii’s a great situation for him, but it was nice knowing that at minimum he would be accepted into BYU and not have the worries that so many others have about their kids getting admitted. I wouldn’t have felt guilty about it if he had because BYU was the one that offered him admittance based on his abilities to do what he does. It’s why I don’t think mudpupper should feel guilt over it either. If BYU wants his son it is because he is bringing something to them that few other can bring, his abilities are making the school better and because of that they are willing to bring him in under different circumstances than most others that go there.

Having rare abilities has value that maybe can’t be quantified in the same way that normal academics are quantified. If one of the departments in the school believes a srptudent brings something to that department that is of value and that it transcends the normal requirements then one shouldn’t feel guilty about that. It is for the school to decide if you, or your kid, brings that kind of value.
