There are some nice neighborhoods/schools in South Charleston, but a lot of doctors, dentists etc commuted from Teays Valley. Better schools and neighborhoods out there. I'm not sure how it is now, but there were 2 stakes and the members were super close. They'd organize temple trip caravans to DC or Columbus all the time.
For sporting events you have to go to Huntington and see Marshall games, Morgantown for WVU games, or Blacksburg for VaTech so it takes some driving.
For the most part everyone is nice, and it's a good environment but you can get lost in the sticks pretty quickly and run into who knows what.
There are a lot of outdoorsy stuff to do as well if you're into that. If you're craving city life this is far from it.
