Yep. This is a big factor. Pretty much everyone knows how hard it is to get
accepted, and the application process is much more difficult than other universities in Utah, so many kids won't bother going through the pain of writing all those essays unless they are confident that they have a shot at getting in.
That doesn't describe everyone, of course, but it does describe many.
