the difference is that while renting, you are generally much more flexible
You can move to a new city easier for an employment transfer or a new opportunity. you can also incrementally upgrade from say a 2-bedroom to a 3-bedroom if needed. People early in their career/life typically have lots of big life changes, and buying a house amidst all these changes can cause more friction.

This is my experience, having moved multiple times for job opps early in my career that benefited my life greatly.
