renting has additional benefits

tenant does not have to pay the property insurance or property taxes. Unless they cause the damage, the tenant also does not have to pay repairs on roof, heating and air-conditioning system etc. Sometimes those expenses can be greater than what the appreciation is in a particular year. I think there are times when renting is beneficial due to your age but it is not 100% the best way to go, imo.
