The Tacoma was updated in 2016. It's brand new with a new drivetrain and platform.
And especially out west, off road cred is huge. Especially with overlanding taking off. And people back east are building 'mall crawler' tacomas just like Jeep Wranglers.
Many tacomas are customized. It's easy to do, and that's a huge value for buyers in this segment.

Holy crap, none of that has anything to do with offroading. Maybe that's why the Americans suck so bad at a midsized
