league, it was the best option available under the circumstances. The MWC had not treated BYU fairly or honorably over the years. Our move to independence ended up destroying football in the WAC. The WCC provided us a landing spot for nearly all of our non-football sports and some good basketball opponents in Gonzaga and St. Mary's. Their institutions accept and respect the religious component of BYU, as opposed to how some in the Pac 12 view that issue. They accommodated our no Sunday play desire and have even shifted things around for their conference tournament as a result.

When we went to the conference we thought it would be us battling it out with Gonzaga for the basketball crown on an annual basis. And we thought we'd do well with the other sports. We have done well with the other sports. With basketball, Gonzaga has gotten much better and we've dropped off.

Everybody wants to blame the drop off in basketball on the conference. I don't buy it. We wouldn't have a better team if we had stayed in the MWC. Taking our basketball frustrations out on the conference only makes us look small.
