There's an article on ESPN+ titled "Will LeBron become the greatest scorer of
all time?" This is actually a discussion I had with a friend when he passed Wilt in November, and we did the math because why not.
James currently has 32,280 points. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has 38,387 points. That is a difference of 6107 points.
James is currently averaging 27 points a game. Assuming he doesn't get hurt the rest of this season, he'll have added 486 points to his total, bringing it to 32,766, closing the gap behind Kareem to 5621 points.
His career PPG is 27. Assuming he keeps that up, it would take him 208 games to pass Kareem, or two and a half more seasons of him playing every game and playing elite basketball for those two seasons.
He would be nearly 37. I don't see it happening.
