I wouldn't have a problem as much with it if it didn't always affect the middle infielders. We were always taught growing up that a middle infield needed time and not to mess with it as much. You could platoon 1st or 3rd, but timing and defense would suffer if you didn't give your middle infielders time to play well with each other.
Maybe the MLB is different and these dudes can just do it, but I don't see many of those sick double plays where you can tell the SS and 2nd have played lots of games with each other.
