A major difference between the composition of the men's and women's BB teams is
the scope of recruiting. Eleven of the fifteen players on the men's team come from Utah or Idaho and none from outside of the U.S. Judkin's team has only six of sixteen from UT-ID and six who are from overseas.

It may not be so surprising that the women's team seems apparently more competitive. Judkins and staff have cast a much wider net to find good players. Rose is capable of getting into the upper tier when he has talent, but I doubt that there's enough talent in UT-ID to share with the Yewts and have an upper tier team. Without much more ambitious and wide-ranging recruiting men's BB will probably be restricted to the mediocrity bracket.
