While you are getting a lot of hate on this, I happen to think you are spot on.
I enjoy going to tailgates with friends. There is usually good food, good fans, and games. That said, if it weren't for the opportunity to imbibe copious amounts of alcohol before the game, then people would stay home and do those things. I am always the DD, so they all pay for my food and tickets and gas, and they don't have to pay for a hotel that night to sleep it off. I have lots of friends that love to tailgate, but if it weren't for the alcohol, they would play games and have a BBQ at home and then go to the game. Having a public place to drink and socialize is why tailgating became a thing. It did not become a thing because a huge group of fans just all wanted to hang out together and eventually introduced alcohol. An excuse to drink just made the fans look for more ways to have that excuse.

I think BYU could have their own version of tailgating. I think it could be very successful. I think it would be a very weird version of tailgating and would not resemble most tailgating. That seems to be par for the course with BYU and Latter-Day Saints in general. Not bad, just reality.

The biggest thing we need is fans though. Like actual fans of football and the school. I hope CB is not a good representation of the fan base. The majority of posters seem to just enjoy dumping on the school and the team and have no idea how the game of football is played. It seems that so many are only in it for bragging rights. Win a game and you can lord it over whoever is in earshot. Not really caring about player development, x's and o's, and the like. So much goes on about uniforms and atmosphere, no one really cares to watch a good block, and improvement from one game to the next, etc. I am sure plenty will say, "Improve the product on the field and I will care" What that really means is that you have no fandom for football, you only care about winning. If that is the case, go be a fan of Alabama. They win. BYU will never by Alabama, but at least you could be a fan of the one thing you like. If you like football, you can enjoy the 4-9 season by seeing steps made to improve, seeing how players handle the failures, looking toward what went wrong and see what is being done to fix it.

I think a true fan of the game and the school will support their team because they are a fan. If a fan is looking for the coolest color scheme, then maybe a fashion magazine would be more appropriate for you.
