Bummer news... Hakuho tore his bicep in his final match (defeated fellow Yokozuna Kakuryu to complete "zensho" - perfect

tournament record). Unfortunately in Sumo there is a macho culture that compels wrestlers to try and wrestle through injury. If one sits out, they will be demoted in rank (although Yokozunas are excepted from demotion). The macho mentality is so bad that even after the match was complete, instead of getting medical attention, Hakuho just had an attendant rubbing his arm with a bag of ice while he completed the winner's ceremony.

This isn't just a Hakuho mentality, it's a sumo mentality which causes me to fear for his long-term health. He is the most dominant sumo wrestler in the history or the sport and he has nothing left to prove, so I am hoping he takes a few tournaments off to have surgery and proper rehabilitation.
