I know many people love to ignore all the variables that go in to it and only point to number of championships, but my goodness Pop has been amazing. Last night he became the winningest coach in NBA history. He has made his teams better and has outcoached opposing coaches regularly. Yes he has had some great players over the years, but aside from a short stint with David Robinson and then being fortunate enough to have Tim Duncan, it's not like he had superstars like Phil Jackson had while with the bulls and later the Lakers. I doubt Tony Parker or Manu Ginobli would have been perennial all stars had they not had Pop coaching them up and helping them improve. With the spurs, it wasn't like opposing teams would go against them and ask, "How are we going to stop Duncan, or Parker, or Ginobli?" It was always a team effort. No one single player took over the game for them like a Jordan, Lebron, or a Shaq. Popovich has made the NBA more enjoyable, in my opinion. I enjoy watching good team basketball. I get bored with heavy iso sets.
