And it's not going to matter a whole lot what their record is early on. Who cares if they have wins against SC State, SMU, UConn, and even GT? I doubt they beat Wisconsin. Last year at 7-0 they had 0 impressive wins. The next 6 teams who proceeded to blow them out sure didn't care about their record. I'd be surprised if a 4-1 team like that was ranked going into the BYU game. It sure wouldn't mean much.

SDSU lost 5 of their last 6 so they have quite a way to go as well. Obviously BYU gets them at the end so they could fix things by then, but they were a 10-win team a year ago and only made it up to 33. They're going to have to have some impressive wins. Their OOC schedule is trash.

It doesn't look like they return THAT much. Bleh QB and they lose the better one. RB isn't what it used to be with some of their other guys. Washington is good, but SDSU just isn't the same when they don't have guys like they did before. The fact that they're having to pass more because of it is probably contributing to their losses. They lose two tackles, their top two receiving threats and are young at WR. They lose everything up front on the DL.

They could improve, but I'm definitely not seeing them getting to the level they were at a few years ago, and I'm having a hard time seeing a whole lot of improvement in general this year. Maybe it could happen, but this isn't the SDSU of the last few years, and it's not the USF from way back when they had Quinton Flowers.
