I think often for men the family unit and maybe a small friend group is enough
Speaking generally of course, and in particular men who have families with children. I think women overall have a greater need for a more consistent friend base outside of the home, this is certainly the case with me and my wife.

Both of us are extroverts, we can talk to and make friends easily. That said, my wife actually does branch out and find new friends often, whereas I don't have much desire to put effort into branching out with a friends group since I rarely have time for much else after work, family, church, and personal hobbies.
