Finally getting around to filling up our blue 55G water barrels. Any advice?

Anything I should know before hand? They have been sitting in the garage for several years now. I'm guessing we should sanitize the barrels first. Is sitting on the garage floor ok?

I think you add bleach to it but not sure what ratio

I thought I read that they advise not directly on a concrete floor. Also, dump out and refill every 6 months.

Mine are in the garage. I empty and refill them on Saturday afternoon of each general conference

My kids used to look forward to changing out the 72-hr kits each conference because they would snack on the food items

And refilling them every 6 or 12 months you shouldn't need any bleach drops or other additives
