^^^This...a lot of companies don't want to pay unemployment compenstation

So, if there is a situation where an employee is just not doing well you can, instead of firing them, get them to essentially resign and gibe them a few weeks of severance.  It is much better for an employer to go this route than to straight up fire a person...unless, of course, that employee is doing deliberate actions that cause harm to the company (like stealing money, for example).
