Azek (a competitor to Trex) and one of the workers doing the installing was wearing marking boots that put black marks all over. The contractor was aware of it and said they would clean it off when the project was finished.
Well they finished the deck and then came through with a power washer to clean it off. They used high power, went against the grain, and got the nozzle too close to the composite wood. Now instead of superficial marks, there are tons of deep gashes in the composite wood. Turns out a power washer is clearly prohibited by the manufacturer as it voids the 30 year warranty.
The contractor has reviewed the damage and agrees it looks bad and is his fault, but he simply doesn’t have the money to completely replace the deck. This stuff is ridiculously expensive to begin with.
My friends just want the deck they agreed to at the price they agreed to, but it’s looking like they will have to pay some portion of the replacement cost if they want to actually have a 30 year warranty on their deck they bought for its 30 year warranty.
