at a certain time. After that time, don’t see them or hear them & door stays shut. They’ll stay up ridiculously late first couple nights and you just wake them for school as cheerful as possible w/o any lecturing (this is hardest part). Only takes a couple days till they’ll go to sleep at a good time. If they come out of room, they have to be in room a half hour earlier the next night. Adult time is glorious.
Conversation sounds like this: “hey, we’re sick of yelling you guys to bed every night. So how about you can stay awake as late as you want and we won’t say a word about it? There are only 2 rules. 1) At 9:00 you’re in your room. Don’t want to see you & don’t hear you from then on. Do whatever you want as late as you want. That’s adult time for us. 2) You get up on time and are ready for school on time. That’s it. Deal?” Every kid will jump on it.
