I find it kind of weird, but mostly I'm just surprised by somebody speaking to me when I'm not expecting it

so I am just not ready with any kind of response and it takes me a second to realize they're talking to me and another second to formulate a response and then the moment is gone, but I'm socially still expected to say something so it comes out awkwardly almost by default.
