I've been coaching my jr. high-aged boy in a rec baseball league this year. We live in a town that is considered Eagleton to our neighboring city's Pawnee. For some reason, every Pawnee team we have played is filled with surly, paunchy guys. Then there are their players.
I'm not sure what's happening in Pawnee, but their coaches treat games against us like they're in a Celebrity Deathmatch where they are Stone Cold Steve Austin and we are Vince McMahon. They also treat the umpires like they are professional umpires and NOT high school juniors. Then, my favorite is when these diseased buffalo carcasses are coaching the baseline where the Eagleton team is, they actually taunt the 12-13 year old kids on our team about how sucky they are. Really???
I'm not sure what is going on in Pawnee, but little league baseball — especially rec league — is about teaching kids that haven't really played how to play, or giving kids reps that have some experience and are already pretty good. It's not really about winning or losing, and it most certainly isn't about some Al Bundy-like donkey diaper who is trying to relive his high school glory days through his 13-year old kid and/or that kid's rec league baseball team.
