Childs has no shot at NBA and former coaches should have used stats to show him
why. A benchmark to judge players is if they score at least one point or more for each shot they take and if they hold an opponent under 1 point per shot that they defend. This past season, Childs shot 32.3 percent from 3, which equals .969 points per shot. He shot 50.7 from 2 which is barely over 1 point. I've heard his defense was atrocious and among the bottom 20 percent of players when using the 1 point per shot rule. I've heard he was surprised recently when these stats were shown to him. He needs to come back to BYU, and the current staff will work with him to dramatically improve his percentages on both offense and defense.

Meanwhile, Jake Toolson shot 44.8% from 3 and 53.7 from 2 this past year. If BYU's new coaches focus more on analytics (which I think they will) players like T.J. and Yoeli (if he returns) may see their 3-point shots curtailed. TJ last year was 35.2% from 3 and 46.3% from 2. If Jesse Wade comes on the scene and shoots more than 40% from 3, TJ's shot selection will and should be refined.
