LDS in Utah, non-LDS in Utah, LDS outside of Utah, non-LDS outside of Utah. I've attended at least a couple of each. I was being a little hyperbolic but as far as I can tell Utah weddings absolutely tend to be significantly less formal (tacky invitations, surveys for addresses, the incorrect "announcement" wording I mentioned, lack of dress code, finger food, end before the sun goes down). I'm not saying every wedding outside of Utah is a black tie high-class event, but even the weddings of wealthy people I've been to in Utah have been a lot closer to the wedding I described in my post than what most people would call a nice wedding.
