(Cue the “score more points than the other guys” jokes…)
Reportedly, BYU’s the only D1 team facing all P5 opponents in the first four weeks, so it’s a tough start. Many hope/expect ZW to pick up where he left off and lead a pass-slinging assault right out of the chute, but I fear they’ll be disappointed. I suspect Grimes wants to repeat the Wisconsin success with heavy sets and a run-first game plan through September, hoping to not rely heavily on Zach during the first month. He’s still recuperating from shoulder surgery, missed Spring camp, and is unlikely to see much live action (certainly no hitting) during Fall camp. And he’s still really young and learning the playbook (not a criticism—just a reality). At the same time, Grimes has two new, battled-tested, senior RBs ready to go (think of Squally’s big game at WI). I suspect they’ll carry the load while Zach works into game shape.
Thoughts?
