1) I get that they have to make elphaba as unwanted as possible so it makes sense that they make her green and abhorrent but making her a child of an affair leaves a sick feeling in my stomach. Again, probably the point, but unnecessary and uncomfortable.
2) I very much liked turning the “witch” into a sympathetic righteous crusader. There’s always two sides to every story and the accusation that she was wicked because she was different is very relevant to mainstream politics today
3) the story let’s go a bit towards the end of why elpheba started fighting the wizard in the first place— persecution and silencing of the talking intelligent animals. While it was probably intended as a referendum on modern day diversity, gay rights and the struggle of minorities, I actually think ironically it fits the nationwide pc Movements to silence conservative speakers and thought leaders. They are “vanishing” from social media and being forced into silence.
4) Glinda and the wizard in the originals were terribly undeveloped characters. I loved learning about Glinda’s flaws as well as the wizards devious politics. Made them all more human and believable.
