Whoa there. I wasn't alluding to Mexican soccer per se, its quality and rich
soccer tradition. I actually admire Mexican soccer in terms of tradition and quality.

Now, the "crazy stuff" I advocate is not crazy, in my opinion. Nor is it neophytic nonsense. I don't know how extensive or far back your soccer involvement goes, but I've been a huge soccer fan for 35 years. So I'm no neophyte, even if many neophytes may agree with my views. So you can say my views are crazy, stupid or whatever, but you can't accuse me of having these views because I am a neophyte in the Game.

Also, I have never advocated for larger goals. That would be stupid. There is nothing wrong with the size of the goals. And can you imagine the logistics of trying to change out every 8 × 24 in the world, at every level? Yes there are lots of stupid suggestions thrown around, especially by soccer neophytes.

But sometimes the uninitiated are correct about initial observations. I was in hyper-defensive mode with regards to soccer criticism for about the first 15 years. Still am when it comes to the "soccer sucks" and "our sports are better" crap. But it gradually became obvious to me that the structure, and some laws, of the Game were flawed. I still have the yellowing newspaper articles from the early Frank DeFord anti-soccer days. In about 1990 he wrote the the Game of soccer, with a capital "G" was "out of whack". There is a lot I don't agree with Frank DeFord about, but I had to eventually concede his point.

To reiterate:

Yes, my basic proposed fix to the Game's structure is to shorten the field and reduce the number of players, because I believe the basic problem is one of space and the number of players. And that results in scoring chances and scoring to be so difficult, typically, that a strong correlation between quality of play and scoring is undermined. And this in my opinion is more of a structural than aesthetic flaw. Aesthetics is subjective. Structural has to do with the integrity of the Game.

But FIFA is too regressive to even acknowledge this, let alone fix it. And soccer people all over the world are typically Defenders of the Faith.
