outside of the top 100 kids. For instance going into last season my son was unrated by any of the recruiting services, which made sense since he hadn't started before and hadn't gone to many camps, only one really, because they are mostly in the spring when he was playing baseball and couldn't attend them.

And he remained unrated by all of the services until late in the season when 247 gave him a mid tier 3 star rating 83 numerically. But in the meantime the 247 guys had attended several of his games, contacted him multiple times, interviewed him, talked to his coaches, and actually paid attention to him and what he was doing.

We never heard a single time from Rivals or any other recruiting site, never saw any of them at any games, they never talked to him, never called him, nothing.

In fact until January 247 was the only site that had him rated. Then he announced his commitment to Hawaii and within a few days he all of a sudden had a rating in Rivals, a 2 star rating, but they still had never even talked to him or seen him play as far as we are aware. They just threw a rating on him based off of the fact he had committed to an FBS school.

If you go to 247 and just look at the 247 ratings he is the 9th highest rated recruit in the state, the highest rated QB in the state, and as I said a mid level 3 star recruit.

If you go to rivals he is a 2 star and that is it, they have no other info on him, they just pulled that rating out of the air and gave it to him without any really analysis being done. In fact I was told by several people who are involved in those things that other than the very highest rated recruits rivals pays no attention to any of them that aren't from back east or California.

So in our experience, which of course is limited, 247 was the only site that actually did any research and came up with a rating based on some actual research. Rivals is just a meaningless throw away.
