I go to a conference in DC every year and see most of the same people. We have a special event dinner each evening and so one evening we are stuck waiting on a tour bus and three of the most prominent guys I know from the conference start going on and on about smoking things on this thing called the Big Green Egg. They are adamant that is the best and are basically telling me that smoking food is their biggest past-time now.

So genuinely interested I start asking them more and more about it and they start talking about the amount of time it takes to smoke things in this sucker. For real meat its like 8-10 hours, steaks are like 4 and for pizza and chicken it is about 2-3. We get around to Traeger's (I don't have one) and I ask them if the Green Egg is way better because I'm thinking of getting ont. They all kind of go quiet for a moment and one of the guys starts his statement with "Ehhh" and goes on to say that the outcome is not way better and on most things it is probably the same but the process is much manlier and artistic. He also admitted he has a Traeger and has found himself using it more and more because it comes out great. This is the guy from the South who has been using smokers for 20+ years. Why don't I just buy I Traeger then I say. Again a long silence and then the same guys says "Probably the smart move honestly." That pretty much killed that topic of conversation all on its own.
