If anything, they gain greater stature as time goes on. One example i heard recently is Gretzky was one of the best in hockey history at recovery. In other words, high usage from ice time or games on consecutive nights did not affect his numbers like his contemporaries. I heard this on a podcast last year, so I have no source. 🙁
