Isaiah Kaufusi's story reason why BYU needs to invest a bit more in youth camps
Coming off my first experience with the BYU "Junior camp" (my boy is 9), I walked away very unimpressed with the overall camp and the kids opportunity to have some exposure to the "program." If I had only gone to the BYU camp, I probably wouldn't be so critical, but we've been to 6 youth camps from different Top football programs, and BYU's failed against several High School camps. It felt lazy, with no real efforts to create a memorable experience for the kids.

Many on here said this camp is more of an EFY, which I understand, especially if they are doing room and board (my kid was too young)... but they should have some type of program for younger kids that gives them more interaction with the program... It felt like a YMCA drop off camp for local provo kids...I did expect the full time "coaches" to be HS players or kids on the scout team or other "non-starters", which is fine and is consistent with other camps (which by the way, all the player coaches were great with the kids)... But where BYU failed, was interaction with the program...

For a 3-day camp, not to have one member of their "active" coaching staff come to do a short rah rah talk is sad... I get it, the high school camp is going on at the same time down the street, but it only takes 30 min and pays major dividends for these kids. Luckily, Zach Wilson did show the last morning of camp and gave a cool 10 minute speech and signed stuff for the kids, which was by far the highlight for the kids... I'm just wondering why they couldn't have done this on the other days... or some of them popping in throughout the day. The kids didn't even get to see the practice facility/stadium (I'm hoping bc its under renovation).

Isaiah Kaufusi (BYU flipped from Utah family) discussed what changed him and he said it started with the youth camps... Back then his uncle (active coach) and well known players were involved in the camp and these kids had exposure to them and it created fans at a young age, which then led to a recruiting flip... We talk about how many "BYU" kids are going to other schools and I think having a camp that provides a good BYU football program experience for younger kids will help create BYU fans at a younger age...Especially out of state kids.
