I think one major advantage Bronco had is that he was in the system before becoming head coach. Being the active DC he knew BYU and how things were different here vs other places. For good or bad, he was able to learn the ups/downs of coaching at BYU through Crowton.
I think it took Kalani a few years to learn those same lessons that Bronco knew from day 1 of taking the head coaching job. Even though Kalani was a player here, he didn't have any practical experience on the inner workings of recruiting and running a program as unique as BYU.
