location for their stadium, they look to have the core of their attendance within a certain radius around the stadium. for the rays, half of that radius is the ocean. then take into account that the trop is a TERRIBLE place to watch a game. you never feel like you're at a baseball game. it's just super weird. worse, traffic is terrible getting there. if you live in the suburbs of tampa, getting to st pete is terrible at all times of the day and evenings. you can only get there by a two lane, long bridge. and since CENTCOM and SOCOM are there, traffic never actually really gets better. it's just a nightmare for a family to attend a game.
