Problem: Tampa can't draw anyone to the ballpark
Obvious Solution: Move to a city that can
Bandaid Solution: Make both the cities of Montreal (since of course they took their team from them) and Tampa Bay happy by giving them half a team.
End result: Best case scenario is one of the two cities really steps up and eventually earns the team. Probably scenario is that they try this for a few years and then eventually move to a new city that can support them.
I'm guessing there are not going to be many MLB players that want to play for that team. At least 1/2 of the baseball year you get to sleep in your own bed and be with your family. That now becomes 1/4 of the time.
How do you make your team? Based on your home field advantage in Montreal or Tampa? (yes many teams look for niche players that fit their ballpark, when you have two you have none).
Corporate Sponsors: Will they be more likely to spend money on half of a box for a season? I would think the answer is no, but I guess we will see. In Denver I am constantly hearing that we are the official bank of the Rockies or the official restaurant of the Rockies or whatever. Now would you be the official Bank of the Rays when they play in Tampa?
