If we accept an invite to the AAC, we are closing the door on us ever becoming a
P5 program.

Not because it would be difficult to leave if an invite ever came, but because no invite would ever come. BYU fans need to realize that no P5 invite is coming to "save" us from independence or a G5 conference. A P5 invite will only come when and if we have earned it.

The fact of the matter is that a conference is only going to invite BYU if we pull our own weight AND make the existing members more money. Most data suggests we can pull our own weight, it does not support that we will make the rest of conference significantly richer.

The only way to become a more valuable program is to continue acting like a P5 program. Schedule big games, pay competitive coaches salaries, and don't fall back down to the G5 after we spent the last 8 years crawling out of it.

Programs are built over decades, BYU established itself as one of the best of the non-power teams in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. The program needs to take the next step. Moving to the AAC is trying to return to the past. Count me out.
