Robbinoburrito Walk-on
It's ok. I get it.
I'll admit. Utah has probably a pretty good football team. I didn't say anything on the fact that BYU was the big brother on football only, I said if you look at their athletics as a whole BYU is superior. But, alas, I'll take the bait.

I follow standings (even more than top 25) every week during the season. And have for a while. Utah would have had to have about at most two losses to be in the top 25 during the season before they joined the PAC-12. Now, because of their affiliation with the PAC-12 they can have sometimes 3-4 losses to be in the top 25. What changed? Nothing except conference affiliation. Head coach remained the same, they still can't smoke their rival year in and year out. The only thing that really changed was that they can say "member of PAC-12". FACT.

Next, it is a mentality issue. BYU is a national brand. Utah kinda is. BYU is an international brand. Utah really isn't. Utes who argue against BYU football know in the back of their mind that they are also arguing against a national/international brand that they just can't compete with as a whole. Hence, the little brother syndrome. They point to little and specific things, such as football to try and make their point. Which is fine. I only mentioned it because so many Utes are commenting on here lately. I understand that we would be talking about the game and the rivalry a lot on here, but I didn't expect so many Utes to be commenting on a BYU board, so I felt obligated with my post to mention why. I get it if you're also a BYU fan, like you are, but those that comment and obviously aren't at all, well, it's just them buying into the mentality that I've described.

I do want to mention another thing along with this, since I mentioned BYU being a national/international brand. And also because you accused me of being the defensive one (I was simply agreeing with a fellow cougar, it was you, a Ute, who commented on a BYU board getting defensive). This program's higher aim, and many coaches, athletic directors, and many others in power and influence in BYU, have said that the athletics' (including football) aim is to spread the message of BYU, and therefore the Church. This is why I'm a BYU football fan. I think that the better the football team does the better the football team helps the Church reach this goal. Period. It goes without saying that I am a BYU fan first and a college football fan second. As I would expect of any college football fan who is also a member of the Church. Therefore, I if I were to choose to root for a team other than BYU they would be my second choice, because the aim is much more temporary. (My other team is Alabama, and still second on my list). I think because of U of U's semi-Church affiliations through the decades and because they are based in Utah, they feel somewhat connected to this issue on at least a sub-conscience level. I know that you and others may not agree, but I know many get this feeling from BYU fans and don't know why when Utah should be considered so much better, especially in football. Well, just know that the feeling isn't going to go away. Utah and BYU aren't playing the same game, so Utah fans will always get that feeling from BYU fans. And why they like to argue on a BYU board, but won't ever feel that they are winning the argument.

I will agree that Utah is slightly better in football right now, it isn't indicative of the mentality of the fans. And as I've stated, I don't personally think about Utah in any particular way at all as I am a BYU fan. I was simply stating how the Ute fans that come to this board mostly feel when they try and argue, even if they don't realize it.
