We moved from Michigan to Layton while two of my sons were starting their HS Jr
year. One was a swimmer, the other was a wrestler & played football. Both were good at their sports, neither was great, the one who played football was an occasional starter.

I thought we would buy a house in the south end of Cache Valley so we enrolled our sons at Mountain Crest. We ended up buying a house in Logan. The HS boundary was in our back yard so we had to get a waiver for them to play at Mountain Crest, rather than transferring to Logan. All the principals in the district had to sign off for them to play. Only Mountain Crest principal signed off. I talked to the principal at Logan HS. He said we lived in Logan so they had to attend Logan HS. I told him that if they changed schools six weeks into the semester, it would ruin their GPA for that semester and affect their college admissions. He said their grades didn't matter; they had to transfer to Logan HS.

We appealed to the Utah state HS athletic association, who ruled in the boys favor and said they could play at Mountain Crest. By then there were only two games left in the season.

The coaches at Box Elder were so mad they went through all the game films to try to find any plays that my son played in before the ruling. All they could find was him standing on the sideline wearing blue jeans and a Jersey with no pads.
