Anyone else personally there in the stands that day? It was during the McMahon years.
I was there and remember like it was this morning. It was surreal. After egregious, uncalled holding on USU's o-line all day, Filiaga finally breaks through and gets a hit on the Aggie QB, but gets immediately flagged for unnecessary roughness. When the flag comes out, Junior just snaps and takes down the referee, pummeling him with blows until coaches and players pulled him off. To this day, I haven't seen a sports official attacked like that.
The reason this comes to mind is the post below about players getting booted/leaving the program. Junior was suspended for the remainder of the season, and BYU/LaVell had to do some P.R. damage control, but Junior stayed the course and was back the next season. Dick Harmon wrote a column about his return and nicknamed him the "IceMan."
The only other player that came to my mind was Glen Kozlowski. Can't recall what his transgression was, but he, too sat his year and returned to complete a stellar career.
