I also remember this incident like it was this morning. I was a student athletic trainer working the game. The officials were very suspect that game and very inconsistent. Junior was being held a lot and the official wasn’t very understanding at his pleas to watch the holding. I remember Junior being flagged for roughing and the official pointing in his face. The next thing he has hit the official, knocks him to the ground and then pummels his face over and over until he was pulled off him. Junior was very upset and just lost it. He was rightfully suspended the remainder of the season and although allowed to play the next year had a very short leach as to his temper. Players from other teams tried as hard as they could the next season to make him lose control trough cheap shots, name calling etc. but to his credit he never did and was a standout defensive player. Having gotten to know him, he was a very gentle man who just happened to snap in this situation. Very unfortunate. It was handled beautifully byLaVell and the school. I think Junior became a much stronger individual after this incident.
