Plot tunes in “Stasis”– From Inca percussion, to Debussy, to Led Zeppelin, music
is everywhere in the “Stasis” series. Sometimes it functions as a way of joining up with a community. A city choir conductor told us that people who sing together have a sympathy with each other that extends even to their hearts beating in time.

But music can reach people in a way that’s primal, and therefore, difficult to evade.

In using music while writing the “Stasis” books, I checked details like whether the technical difficulty of performing the piece fit the hero’s level of skill, and what key the song would need to be in to be in the hero’s vocal range.

Of course I also checked whether the piece was contemporaneous with the time the hero was visiting, because exposing people to the best music they’ve never heard is filled with all sorts of interesting consequences...
