Hans reviewed film on Katoa, Ty’Son and Esukpa. He’s pretty confident that Katoa will be the day one starter and will lead the team in rushing for the season. This wasn’t necessarily a slight to the two transfer RBs — he’s just that impressed with Katoa’s film. Katoa carried the ball 12 times on 3rd and short (3 yards or fewer), and he got first down 10 times. That’s not a huge sample size, but that’s what you wanna see from a go-to guy.
Hans said Ty’Son will probably be the #2 guy. He’s impressed by his ability as a pass catcher, but he doesn’t seem have the power running and tackle breaking ability of Katoa. He said Ty’Son gives away what he’s doing pre-snap if the balls going to him. Some good coaching ought to fix that, and I can see him being a major weapon for BYU this season.
