Believe the Oilers don't have to protect Neal and could also buy him out... Flames must protect Lucic in the Seattle expansion draft. I don't know Calgary's forward lineup well so maybe they can afford to do that, but opening up the protection spot has gotta be a major win from Edmonton's point of view.
