Transfer to BYU after Mission?
Hi

So, what experiences does anyone have with trying to transfer to BYU after a mission. My son is currently at BYU-I, and leaving in Winter on a mission. I feel that AFTER his mission, chances are he is a much more competitive applicant. Since filling out the applications, he's has started working as an Intern in his chosen major at an impressive firm, so he has ALOT more experience and background now than he did as a very young senior filling out the applications. Also, I would hope that the Mission will mature him as well.

BUT, I'm sure that is true of alot of kids ... so what is the best approach?

When does he apply for the transfer? Right BEFORE he leaves, with a request for a deferment? Which lets him fill out all the applications. About half way through the Mission, and we the parents do the "fill in the blanks" part of the application, and get him to work on the essays on P-Day? Immediately after getting home from the mission, hoping for winter 2023 admission (i.e. probably after the deadlines for fall 2022 admission)?

Do you retake the ACT? After completing one semester at BYU-I and before leaving on the mission?

Just wondering how (or if) others have done this?
