I had a wedding reception in my backyard during the BYU v utah game of 2011. It was for my sister-in-law (wife's sister). My wife and I agreed that it would be fine for me to cut away from the reception to watch the game.

Another sister-in-law (wife's brother's wife) asked if she could join me. I said something to the effect that it depended on which team she would be cheering for in the game. She gave an odd explanation, which included that she was a member of the church and a returned missionary, and ultimately said that she would be cheering for BYU.

We all know how that game started and how much of a nightmare it was to watch. Well, when the ball went over Jake's head and the subsequent yewt touchdown, this women jumped off the couch and like the USC cheerleader who cheered when Texas scored in the NC, she was jumping up and down screaming in excitement. And I mean screaming. So much so that my wife came in upset because you could hear it over the music outside. It wasn't like a cheer, it was like a blood-curdling scream. She did this throughout the first half, and which point she said something about there being no reason to watch the second half. Although she poked her head in a few times to see throughout the game.

After her first outburst, I questioned her as to her saying that she would be cheering for BYU, to which she replied something along the lines of; "Well my mission president was a University of Utah grad, so I don't really care who wins." I was incredibly restrained that night, even though I wanted to dis-invite her from my home and had a splitting headache. I have never watched the BYU v utah game again with anyone that I did not already know was loyal to BYU, and I won't anytime soon. As a side note, my wife's sister is no longer married to the man she married that night, and my wife's brother is no longer married to that terrible yewt.
