Casual discussions between ADs (which Holmoe says never happened)...
...are not the same as 'vetting' a school for an invitation to join your conference.

I don't question that you know somebody who knows somebody, but a couple of your assertions just make no sense on their surface:

1. The 'No Sunday Play' policy is well-known by everybody and there would be no need to even bring it up as a possibility during the alleged 'vetting' process.
2. The benefits to being part of a major conference dwarf any possible benefits BYU might get from retaining rebroadcast rights to conference games, and it makes no sense for BYU to even consider turning down an offer (or rebuffing overtures) so that they can re-play BYU @ Cal on a Saturday night. When you are in the crappy Mtn West Conference and nobody can see your games, it might make sense to fight for rebroadcast rights, but when a major conference is considering inviting you to the big-boys table and handing you tens of millions of dollars per year, BYU wouldn't give a rat's patootie about rebroadcasting old conference football games.
