A few more data points that aren't helping:
- BYU is 20-19 over the last three seasons, 11-15 over the past two seasons, and managed only a 7-6 record last year despite a stronger-than-expected start that included a win in Madison over then-sixth-ranked Wisconsin
- BYU is 1-8 against regional rivals Utah, USU, and BSU over the last three seasons, 0-6 in the last two seasons, and went 0-3 last year, despite the BSU and Utah games being within reach and being up three touchdowns late in the latter game
- BYU hasn't beaten Utah since 2009, with an eight-game losing streak — something that hasn't happened since the 1930s — and has now lost two in a row to Utah State for the first time since the early 1970s
